Resume Readiness
Your resume is your first impression. It is also one of the most important parts of your EICOP application. One page. No exceptions. Here is how to make it count.
RECRUITER PRO TIP
Make sure you include your industry-related clubs, sports teams you are on or work with, and extracurricular activities that align with your goals. It's seeing your passion for this space that will set your application apart from the others. What are you doing to seek out opportunities to feed your passion for entertainment, sports, gaming, etc.?
Format & Layout
- One page only - Longer resumes are disqualified.
- PDF format. Always.
- Clean, professional font — 10–12pt body, 14–16pt headings.
- White space matters. No walls of text.
- Aligned margins and consistent spacing throughout.
- No photos. No graphics. Use color sparingly.
Contact Information
- Full name — bold and easy to find at the top.
- Cell phone number with a professional voicemail.
- Professional email address — do NOT use your school email.
- LinkedIn profile with a custom URL.
- Portfolio or website link if relevant to the role.
Work Experience
- Most recent job goes first — work backwards from there.
- Only include experience that is relevant to this program.
- Each role gets 3–5 bullets. Start every bullet with an action verb.
- Show impact — use numbers, percentages, and real results.
- Include job title, company, location, and dates (month/year).
Education
- Degree(s) earned, major(s), and institution name.
- Graduation year or Expected year — this is required.
- Skip coursework lists — use that space for something stronger.
Skills
- Highlight the software, tools, platforms, and technical skills you've used through coursework, projects, internships, research, or work experience.
- Don't just list soft skills like leadership, teamwork, communication, or collaboration — demonstrate them through your experiences and accomplishments.
Additional Highlights (Optional, but valuable when relevant)
- Awards, honors, or recognition (include the year and a brief description when helpful).
- Leadership roles in clubs, organizations, athletics, or campus involvement.
- Special training or certifications.
- Competitive programs, fellowships, or selective opportunities you've been accepted into (like EICOP).
- Merit-based scholarships, grants, or academic distinctions.
- Significant projects, research, publications, or presentations related to your academic or career interests.
Final Gut Check — Before You Submit
- Is your resume limited to one page?
- Have you saved it as a PDF?
- Does it clearly highlight your most relevant experiences, skills, and accomplishments?
- Have you proofread for spelling, grammar, and formatting errors?
- Is your contact information current and professional?
- Would a recruiter understand who you are, what you're interested in, and what you bring to the table in six seconds?
EICOP APPLICATION RESUME VS. INTERNSHIP RESUME
For your EICOP application, share what you are most passionate about and where your experience is strongest. Show us who you are.
When applying directly for internships and employment opportunities, customize each resume for that specific role. Tailor it to highlight the experiences, skills, and accomplishments most relevant to the opportunity — recruiters want to quickly understand how your background has prepared you to succeed.
Either way, keep it to one page. That's industry standard for early-career opportunities.

Personal Statement
Your personal statement is where your voice comes through. Here are some tips to help you write something that is honest, specific, and memorable.
Answer the actual question
Read the prompt carefully and answer exactly what is being asked. Avoid writing a general essay about yourself. Respond to the specific question with purpose and intention.
Open with a story, not a statement
Start with a moment, experience, or story that pulls the reader in. Avoid opening with "I have always been passionate about..." Show us what sparked your interest instead.
Be specific about why EICOP
We can tell when a personal statement was written for another program and repurposed. Write this essay for EICOP. Tell us why this opportunity and experience is the right next step in your career journey.
Connect your experience to your goals
Show the reader how your experiences have prepared you for this opportunity and how EICOP fits into your future goals. Your past experience should feel like evidence for why you are ready for this.
Show self-awareness
No one expects you to have all the answers. Acknowledge what you do not know and what you still hope to learn. Recruiters respect candidates who know what they need to continue growing.
Hit the minimum — and make it count
The minimum is 300 words — and we do check. Use the space to fully answer the prompt, not to repeat yourself. Every sentence should add value and help the selection committee better understand who you are, where you're headed, and why EICOP is the right next step for you.

The strongest personal statements are authentic, specific, and reflective. Instead of telling us what you think we want to hear, show us who you are, what has shaped your journey, and why this opportunity matters to you.
